GALA – Senior Housing

At Golden Age Living Accommodations (GALA) Senior Housing, balconies overlook the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, filled with shopping, restaurants, and many activities to explore. A joint venture between Conifer Realty, LLC, Mt. Airy Baptist Church, and BCK Affordable Housing, GALA offers affordable apartment homes to seniors ages 62 and older.

While GALA was being built, Mt. Airy Baptist Church leased a half-acre of land for $1 a year to the three entities. Community Lenders financed the long-term portion of the four-story, affordable housing community, which is conveniently located to SEPTA bus routes, grocery stores, medical centers, and Cheltenham Square.

“It’s very friendly and joyful to live here, and it’s a very beautiful and comfortable building. Anything you would like to do is right here to enjoy yourself.”

- Sandy, resident

The 50 apartment homes have one or two bedrooms, a full kitchen, living and dining area, and a full bath. Residents also love the generous room sizes, which include ample closet space as well as plenty of cabinet storage for their belongings.

Residents have access to a social service provider, a health and wellness center provided by Chestnut Hill Hospital, and a furnished community room to socialize with others. An arts and crafts room allows residents to express themselves creatively and work on fun projects together while a fitness room keeps them active through every season.

Exceeding the requirements of Energy Star Version 3 and compliant with Enterprise Green Standard, the community is extremely energy efficient, and a wonderful place to call home.
